Owkin partners with Leeds Teaching Hospitals to drive forward medical research using health data

London and Leeds, 29th September, 2025 - Owkin, a leading agentic AI company, and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, have entered a multiyear partnership to explore how agentic AI can help accelerate breakthroughs and advance drug discovery, drug development, and diagnostics.

To start the Partnership, Leeds and Owkin will work together on endometrial cancer, which affects almost 10,000 women in the UK each year. Using expertly curated datasets by doctors in Leeds, Owkin will validate its AI-powered algorithm to predict cancer biomarkers in patients with endometrial cancer.

Agathe Arlotti, SVP of Partnerships & Data Operations at Owkin said: ‘We’re delighted to be partnering with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with their leading reputation in excellence for care and research. It is a perfect match with Owkin’s agentic AI capabilities and we’re excited for opportunities that can be explored through the course of our partnership.’

Leeds Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest and busiest acute hospital trusts in the country and is an established centre of excellence for research and innovation, providing treatment to around 1.6 million patients every year through its network of seven regional hospitals. It joins Owkin’s global network of over 100 research centres that collaborate with Owkin to provide rich and diverse data for AI-powered research.

Professor Geoff Hall, Professor of Cancer Medicine & Digital Health at the University of Leeds and a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “New technologies and innovations are critical to delivering better care for patients and the Trust already has deep expertise in using research and digital care to improve patient outcomes, especially in cancer treatment.  By working with Owkin, we can help play a key role in further advancing data science and analytic capabilities.”

The five-year partnership will see the Partners build and access further datasets curated from health records in Leeds. Each project will undergo a robust ethical review to ensure all projects are for the benefit of patients and that highest regulatory standards are followed.
